On September 18, 1973, future President Jimmy Carter filed a report with the National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenoma, saying he’d seen a UFO back in October 1969. Carter continued to stand by his claims during his 1976 presidential campaign, making him perhaps the most famous and legitimate person in history to report a UFO sighting.
37 years later, we don’t know much more about whether or not there are other forms of life out there, but according to some studies, about 20% of people believe aliens are here living on earth right now. And a far greater number believe alien life forms exist outside of our planet.
But even still, those who proclaim belief in aliens and those who report UFO sightings are usually quickly written off as nutjobs. It hardly seems fair, and that’s why I’m going to give you 7 good reasons to believe in Aliens.
1. The President believed in them
As referenced at the beginning of this post, former President Jimmy Carter formally reported a UFO sighting. He once described the event to the public, saying:
“It was the darndest thing I’ve ever seen. It was big, it was very bright, it changed colors and it was about the size of the Moon. We watched it for ten minutes, but none of us could figure out what it was. One thing’s for sure, I’ll never make fun of people who say they’ve seen unidentified objects in the sky.â€
Hey, if the former leader of our nation says he’s seen UFOs, I’m going to pay attention. Oh, by the way, President Reagan also said he saw a UFO in 1974 when he was governor of California. He said the object ascended quickly into the heavens.
2. The Vatican says It’s okay to believe in aliens
In 2008, the Vatican said there very well could be alien life forms out there and believing in them isn’t contradictory to having faith in God. Rev. Jose Gabriel Funes said, “In my opinion, the possibility exists. Astronomers believe the universe is made up of 100 billion galaxies, each of which consists of 100 billion stars. … Life forms could exist in theory even without oxygen or hydrogen.†He also added that the Bible “is not a science book.â€
3. There are more than 100 billion galaxies in the universe
Scientists have estimated that the universe contains anywhere from 100 billion to 130 billion galaxies. Simply put, our planet is but a very, very tiny speck in an incomprehensibly huge universe. With Like the Vatican said, the universe is so big, that it’s certainly possible that other life forms exist out there. Now, are they green men shooting lasers and hatching schemes to take over the universe? Probably not, but there possibility still remains that other life is out there.
4. Congressman Dennis Kucinich says he saw a UFO
When he was bidding for the Democratic nomination to run for President of the United States, Dennis Kucinich’s UFO sighting story was released, effectively causing the public to view him as too nutty to lead the country. According to his friend Shirley MacLaine’s book:
Kucinich “had a close sighting over my home in Graham, Washington, when I lived there,†the actress, a close Kucinich friend, wrote. “Dennis found his encounter extremely moving. The smell of roses drew him out to my balcony where, when he looked up, he saw a gigantic triangular craft, silent, and observing him.
“It hovered, soundless, for 10 minutes or so, and sped away with a speed he couldn’t comprehend. He said he felt a connection in his heart and heard directions in his mind.â€
5. Millions of people claim to have seen a UFO
At least several hundred thousand UFO sightings have been documented over the past 50 years. The total number of UFO sightings is believed to be in the millions, with some studies showing that up to 7% of people in the world have claimed to see a UFO. Of course, UFO just means unidentified flying object, and it really could be anything (military planes, experiments, etc.), but with so many sightings, you have to wonder if they all can really be explained away.
6. The Rockefeller Initiative
Under the Freedom of Information Act, a researcher discovered government documents of an effort by billionaire Laurance Rockefeller to persuade then-President Bill Clinton to release government held information about UFOs and extraterrestrial life to the public and to provide amnesty to government employees wishing to come forward and testify on the matter. This campaign was known as the “Rockefeller Initiativeâ€, and it involved meetings between the Clintons and Rockefeller, commissioning of several reports, and extensive research.
7. Numerous military officials believe in them
The History Channel has had some good specials examining the question of whether or not aliens exist, and these specials have had numerous top military officials go on record saying they believe in aliens. There have also been many books on the subject which also include stories from military officials who claim to have either seen UFOs or have other reasons for believing. Check out this page of quotes from top officials who believe in aliens.
What do you think? Do you believe aliens exist? Do you think any have actually visited earth?
